For quite some time industrial waste has been one of the primary sources of recyclable material (metals, then paper and cardboard, wood and plastics) since they are made up largely of very recyclable materials. In some countries over 50% of industrial waste is recycled.
Initially, comparatively large quantities of clearly identified clean waste stocks were targeted for recycling It subsequently became possible to recover energy from this waste, but it cannot be incinerated because its energy value is too high. The solution consists is producing an alternative fuel. Residue derived fuels is a fast growing area and used to a greater or lesser extent depending upon the country.
It is only more recently that automatic sorting has been applied to industrial waste; as previously the economical and technological conditions were not favourable. But current limitations on landfill in Europe are encouraging the development of alternative solutions such as sorting and the use of RDFs.
Pellenc ST’s automatic sorting solutions means that recyclable materials (paper, cardboard, plastics, etc.) can be economically sorted, and such solutions are essential for producing residue derived fuel (RDF) to meet the needs of industries such as cement-making.
