C&I - C&D WASTE PLANT
Pellenc ST supplies optical sorters
for the UK's
most advanced plant
Ward is a largest independent metal recycling and waste management company within the UK. The company plays a significant role in environmental sustainability by providing recycling services that help reduce waste and promote the reuse of valuable materials. Their operations contribute to the responsible management of resources and the reduction of environmental impact associated with waste disposal. With the continued demand for waste separation and recycling within the UK, Ward decided to invest in a new waste separation plant in Ilkeston, Derbyshire and make it the UK’s most advanced Construction and Demolition waste plant.
A CUTTING-EDGE PLANT
Kiverco was selected to design, manufacture, and install this large-scale recycling plant which processes 150 000 tonnes of construction and demolition waste a year. With a capacity of up to 50 tonnes per hour, the facility will be able to recover at least 20 different products with an agreed high level of purity, where products such as hardcore and stone must achieve over 90% purity levels.
The installation of this recycling plant represents a significant investment for Ward Group. Typically equipped this type of pant is equipped with one or two optical sorters. Ward’s Derbyshire facility features six optical sorters provided by Pellenc ST. The sorting machines optimise the sorting process, guaranteeing high levels of purity, recovery and throughput, reducing the need for manual sorting.
The optical sorters focus on product recovery rather than RDF / SRF cleanup. Sorting equipment is dedicated to recovering valuable material from both the light, mid heavy and heavy fractions. Products are separated by material, colour and grade, such as brown cardboard, film, rigid plastics, and wood so that they can be given a second life through the various recycling channels.
The plant design helps recover more value from the waste. Ward’s primary objective of 100% of landfill diversion is now possible having invested in this state-of-the-art facility.
The close, high-quality relationships between our teams are essential to the successful completion of our projects.
Donald Ward, Operations Director at Ward said: “We wanted to create the most technologically advanced facility in the UK. After months of research into the equipment and technology available, we were pleased that Pellenc were able to partner with us to supply the quality of optical sorter we needed to maximise recycling and achieve the high quality outputs we were striving for.”
THE FRUIT OF A LASTING PARTNERSHIP KIVERCO – PELLENC ST
“We have partnered with Pellenc ST on a number of plants now, and we have a trusting relationship with real experience and know-how that we can put to good use in our customer performance. We still have many projects to carry out together at the end of the year and in 2025, and we’re already looking forward to working with the Pellenc ST team.” Says JP Devlin from Kiverco.
